Melimoyu Foundation

The Melimoyu Foundation (MF) is a Chilean non-profit organization founded in 1994 by Carlos Cuevas. The Foundation’s purpose is to create and expand land and marine protected areas, both public and private, along the Chilean coast. In the last 25 years, MF has been directly involved in the creation of a 2,4 million acres of official protected areas in Chile. Our main accomplishments are the creation of:  Melimoyu National Park, Corcovado National Park, Pitipalena-Añihué Marine Protected Area and Tic-Toc Marine Park.

Why Protected Areas?

Protected Areas, national parks, national reserves, marine parks, marine reserves, sanctuaries of nature-, are a perfect means for implementing conservation actions and becoming a biological heart of wildlands network. This makes them one of the most effective and popular tools for nature conservation both for wildlife and people. They provide a habitat for wildlife, scenic beauty, recreation and spiritual renewal for humans, economic development, areas for scientific research, opportunities for environmental and cultural education and contribute to show the best image for each country.
